Hip-Hop, Pop | Outasight

Richard Andrew, better known as Outasight, released his debut album “Nights Like These” last year. It included the chart-topping single “Tonight Is the Night”. Of course, this album is just the tip of an iceberg because he released many EPs and mixtapes before that.

His latest single “Change the World” was previously part of a mixtape, and now, it is officially released for the world to hear. It is a fun song to listen (and dance) to, very catchy!

“Change the World” is available on iTunes (US store).

Pop | Kelly Clarkson

Here’s the music video for Kelly Clarkson’s latest single “People Like Us”, from “Greatest Hits: Chapter One”.

It has already been a decade since she won American Idol. Therefore, this first greatest hits album does a great job at bringing back memories with hits like “A Moment Like This”, “Since U Been Gone”, and “My Life Would Suck Without You”.

The compilation also includes 3 new songs: “People Like Us”, “Catch My Breath”, and “Don’t Rush”.

“Greatest Hits: Chapter One” is available on iTunes (US Store).

Kelly Clarkson will be joining Maroon 5 in the 2013 Honda Civic Tour. You can check out the tour dates on her website.

Rap, Electronic pop | Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots has quite an unusual way of bringing music to our ears. Imagine Eminem going synthpop. That’s right, Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun managed to mix rap, electronic and pop.

What does it sound like? Here is their first single “Holding On to You”, off the album “Vessel” (iTunes US store). Very catchy song!

Paramore: Editor’s choice on iTunes

image

Alternative | Paramore

Some people believe that self-titled albums are meant to define (or redefine) the artist’s sounds. Although the departure of the Farro brothers in 2010 forced the band to look at the “skeletons in the closet”, it did not stop them from moving on and evolving.

Their small EP “Singles Club”, with songs like “Hello Cold World” and “Monster” was a good sign that things were indeed going to change… but was it for the better or the worse?

Then came the singles “Now” and “Still Into You”, and finally a self-titled album. Like any album, listening to it once is not enough to determine whether it is a “good” album or not. At least that is what I said to myself at first. As a loyal Paramore fan, their new sound felt like a punch in the face. Very different from my expectations. Obviously I gave the album a second chance… That is what fans do, right?

After a few listens, I realized that the album was almost a wrap-up of their career up to now. Songs like “Daydreaming” and “Part II” reminded me of their debut album “All We Know Is Falling”. Other songs like “Ain’t It Fun” and “Anklebiters” reminded me of “Riot!”. Between these familiar tracks, new “experimental” ones like “Grow Up”, “Still Into You” and “(One of Those) Crazy Girls” came by.

Overall, the trio explored new genres without forgetting their original sound, making their self-titled album a solid and well-planned redefinition of the band.

“Paramore” is currently listed as an Editor’s choice in the iTunes music store (US). Who would have thought they would make it this far?

My picks: “Part II” and “Proof”

Indie Rock | Weekly discoveries

Just sharing some cool songs I found. A lot of them go into that “I wish I discovered that song sooner” category. Some of them, like Youngblood Hawke and New Politics, are fun to listen to. Others like Atlas Genius, are more relaxing.

Folk | Bringing the beach warmth to you.

Back in 2008, Eric Hutchinson finally received the attention he deserved with a little help from Perez Hilton, who recommended his album “Sounds Like This”. Afterwards, things just kept getting better for him: he went up the charts and got his songs featured in multiple movie soundtracks.

Nowadays, he’s bringing back that fresh summer breeze in our ears again with his new album “Moving Up Living Down”, set to be released on April 17. Here’s the first single off the album: “Watching You Watch Him”. Catchy, fun, great lyrics, it’s an instant hit!

You can pre-order the album on iTunes (US store).
